Sussex Businesses Tee Off in Loving Memory of Nikolai Askaroff at Starr Trust Golf Day

The charity Golf Day was held on 18th May 2022 at the prestigious Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate and raised almost £7000 to help young people in Sussex.

20 teams (80 golfers) from Sussex businesses came together to enjoy a fantastic day out to help raise funds for the Starr Trust. This day was the Trust’s 11th Annual Golf Day and a particularly special one, held in loving memory of Nikolai Askaroff, Business Leader and Founder of EMC, who had been a loyal supporter and friend of the Starr Trust for many years.

The Starr Trust Chairman, Rob Starr said “Holding our golf day in the memory of Nik was something I really wanted to do to celebrate the life of a wonderful friend. Nik was truly a generous and kind person, someone who I knew I could always turn to when I needed advice or just a friendly voice. He was always there for me and never more so when I set up the Starr Trust and asked for his support.  Like so many others I miss his council and his wise words. He really left the world a better place than he found it.”

The winning team on the day was Ryan Maidment and friends with 102 points and the winning individual was Darren Beirne from the Gardner & Scardifield team with an impressive 43 points. Other winners included Stuart Noakes of Carpenter Box Accountants, who won Nearest the Pin and Lynden Askaroff with Longest Drive.

Sandra Porter, on behalf of our main event sponsor Handelsbanken, said “On behalf of my 4 Ball Team, and I'm sure the other 2 Handelsbanken teams will agree - Thank you for a fun, well organised golf day at a great venue, with lovely food provided, and helped by the perfect weather on the day. Two of my team members were good friends of the late Nik Askaroff, so they were very appreciative to be invited to the day. It was also interesting to learn more about the Starr Trust, and to hear Rob talk so passionately about the support the Trust provides to young people striving to get on in life.”

Starr Trust Ambassador Jason Burrill presented trophies to the winners, before players enjoyed a delicious BBQ dinner served on the sunny terrace overlooking the Championship waterfall course.

“We were delighted to take part once again in the Starr Trust Golf Day and it was especially poignant for us as it was held in memory of a good friend to Mishon Mackay, Nikolai Askaroff. The Starr Trust is a brilliant local charity and we are very proud indeed to be associated with the Trust” - Steve Neocleous, Mishon Mackay Estate Agents.

Event organiser Tracey Starr said “It was a massive success being a fully sold out event this year! All staff at Mannings Heath made the experience run like clockwork for our guests to enjoy, so huge thanks to them as well as all teams participating and we look forward to returning next year!”

Big thanks go out to all players who attended and our event sponsors including; Handelsbanken, Gardner & Scardifield, Carpenter Box, Pavilion Heating and Bedlam Brewery. Without this kind support, fundraising events like these would not be possible.

ALL funds raised will go out to young people who need our support as running costs for the charity are covered by Seico Group.
