Dan

Dan is studying Technical Theatre at RADA in London, but was struggling with the cost of living whilst studying. We awarded him with funds to help with living costs, so that he can continue to pursue his passion.

Dan says: ‍

"After emailing over 50 theatres to find work experience for college, I was fortunate enough to shadow Assistant Stage Management at The Play That Goes Wrong in London for two nights. This introduced me to the world of Technical theatre, and kickstarted a buzz for a career backstage, where I finally found the perfect career pathway for me - a mix of creativity and precision, with an element of theatre magic.

I then explored the industry further, attending dozens of events/showcases, shadowing in the West End, completing training courses and volunteering with Brighton Theatre Group on their productions of Les Miserables and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

In 2025 I was given an incredible opportunity: I was accepted onto the 2-year Foundation Degree in Technical Theatre and Stage Management at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art). This course is perfect for me as it covers all elements of technical Theatre, and places me in central London ready for even more opportunities as they arise.

This award will allow me to pursue training in Technical Theatre at RADA without the financial burden of living in London. I can now fully focus on my education and the surrounding opportunities, without having to worry about finance every single day. The Starr Trust have gone above and beyond to support me and it is going to make a huge difference to my career."
