Imogen

Imogen is a promising young dancer, but her family was struggling to pay for her training. We awarded Imogen the funds to pursue her dream.

Imogen says: “So grateful to have received this award as it will change my future considerably. I feel relieved that my mum won't have to worry so much about finding money for my exams and classes, and that I can concentrate on becoming the best dancer I can possibly be. I feel really positive about my dance future now I don't have to worry.”

Imi sent us an update about her first year at London Studio Centre:

Dear Starr Trust,

I have had an incredibly fortunate first year at London Studio Centre, learning new styles, honing my technique, developing as a dancer and choreographer, and making some incredible memories with new friends. I feel very lucky to have had the continued support and funding to make this all possible. It’s truly special to be able to live my dream, and work towards my career.

This year I've had some incredible opportunities and results, like ending my year at London Studio Centre with an overall 1st, a 1st for each module of the year, and achieving the highest grade in the entire year at LSC for Graham Dance Technique. Some more highlights include being the only dancer on the Contemporary pathway in all 3 years to make it to the final round audition for the Jazz Performance Team.

I was involved with 3 student choreographed pieces, including a dissertation piece, a choreography assessment piece and a jazz piece which was selected for the 2026 Spring Showcase. I also choreographed a piece for the February platform titled “Garage Palace” which was selected for Spring Showcase, being the only 1st Year choreographed group piece selected.

Closing my First year experience, I performed in Overture (our end of year show) held at the New Wimbledon Theatre in a Contemporary Pathway Piece and a Lyrical Jazz Piece choreographed by Melanie Little and Selina Hamilton. We performed 4 shows over 3 days to a sold out audience. During these shows I was scouted by a dance producer for a future dance project, scheduled to film later this year.

Outside of LSC, I was one of the eight choreographers for this years Young Creatives program supported by OneDanceUk,where I got to create a fully funded piece with 4 dancers. My work “The Code Of Formality” premiered at The Place in July. Throughout the year I have also been creating work for a dance school in Littlehampton and they have been extremely successful in the festival year, where 2 dances made it to the final 12 for the All England National Finals.

I have also been working at Sadlers Wells & Sadlers Wells East for the Making Moves Program,teaching movement workshops, supporting young dancers and being apart of the judging panel to pick the pieces that would get to perform at the National Platform.

Without your support, none of this would’ve happened! So I really couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you for a fantastic year, and hopefully next year is even better.
