Luke

Luke has had a difficult couple of years. He recently moved schools to secondary and struggled with settling into the new school, taking part in an anxiety management group to try to help him. Luke started playing on an old guitar at home, and showed natural skill and ability, so when school offered group lessons for free, the family jumped at the chance. His guitar teacher was impressed with his ability and suggested individual lessons would help him a lot more - but these were very expensive, especially for a single parent family, so the family applied for funding from the Starr Trust.

We awarded Luke the money for his one-to-one lessons so that he can reach his potential.

Luke Mum says "As a single parent, Luke receiving the award from the Starr Trust has made a real boost to him - and to us as a small family. Sadly, Luke’s father cannot support him due to long term illness, and so the financial burden falls to me as a lone parent. Finances as a single parent can be difficult and stressful, and when I saw the cost of guitar lessons and I was worried I would not be able to meet them, so the award is a huge help. Thankyou Starr Trust, for believing in Luke and helping our small family. I have also seen a difference in his confidence levels - he has had such a difficult year or so at school, struggling with anxiety. Your belief in him and the award has provided a very much needed confidence boost - and enabled him to pursue a creative endeavour he really enjoys. Thank you so much!"

Luke says "The thrill that I felt being told I received this award was amazing! I am incredibly honoured to be selected to have this help with learning guitar and I deeply appreciate it. I am so looking forwards to continuing lessons with my guitar tutor and learning lots more about this instrument. It will certainly help me, and my family as well. Thank you very much, Starr Trust!"
