Triathlon 36 - 52x52 Challenge

Friday 02/09/22

Number 36

Swim 35.27

Bike (indoors) 1.30.21

Run (indoors) 48.11

Well that wasn’t easy. I’m still not entirely better from this flu (or whatever it is) thing – I am told it’s likely to be from swimming in the sea after the sewage issues. I like to think it’s not, but in all likelihood it was that as it happened the day after I got back from holiday and went into the sea for the first time in a couple of weeks. The bad throat and stomach have settled now, but I have a sore palate that feels like I’ve burnt the inside of my mouth, making drinking and eating anything really uncomfortable. A good weight loss programme, I guess!

So just like last week I woke up this morning and just did not want to do this. On top of that it was raining hard and was windy, which is not the weather that makes you want to jump out of bed at 5.30am with a spring in your step. So I didn’t! Instead I crawled out of bed at 6.30am and dragged myself to the swim. Then straight after that I dragged myself to my home gym and settled on the turbo for the 40K. I spent the entire 90 minutes spinning my legs as fast as I could and staring at the treadmill just dreading getting on it. I guess I could have braved the rain and run outside, but I just needed to get this thing done and ticked off today and the treadmill was right next to me and was the quickest way of completing this one.

So there you have it – not a pretty post, but an honest one.

Hopefully I’ll have a great week this coming week, will do some good sea swims, some excellent gym work Monday-Thursday and then by Friday morning I will be back to my old self and ready to jump at this. Meanwhile though I shall tick this off and tonight pour myself a large G&T. Just 16 to go!

Triathlon 51 - 52x52 Challenge

That was one of the hardest yet both physically and mentally. Physically because my back is still in muscle spasm, caused by a Crohn's flare up that needed rest but didn’t get it. Mentally because the whole triathlon was done gym based, which meant no sea, no air, no trees, no birds - just a clock telling me I’ve hardly started!
