Triathlon 37 - 52x52 Challenge

Friday 09/09/22

Number 37

Swim – 32.00

Bike – 1.59.23

Run – 1.02.11

I woke up this morning expecting the rain to be hurtling down, but was surprised to see just a damp street and a dull sky – but no rain. As the winter is coming and the good days will get fewer I need to get out of the pool and gym on my Triathlons whenever the opportunity allows.

The swim was ok, I felt strong enough and just ploughed on. The bike though was against the wind for almost the entire 40k and as the streets were wet I decided to use my winter bike, which is much heavier than my usual bike so was slower than I like and a bit harder than I needed it to be. So I really felt fatigued when I dismounted from the bike and started the run, which was not ideal. So it was a slow plod for the first 5k and my mind was shouting at me to just walk the rest. But then out of nowhere I perked up as I sensed the finish line was getting close and I managed to up the pace. I was still slower that I have been, but really who cares about that! All in all it was a tiring and slow one, but there was a small amount of satisfaction that I didn’t quit! Another one done and now just 15 to go!

It feels wrong to leave this post without at least acknowledging the sad news we have all had about our wonderful Queen. I’m not what I would call a huge fan of the Royal Family in general; it is hard to be with some of the characters in their family and some of the appalling things we read about. But none of that bears any relation to how I felt about our Queen. She was simply remarkable. If one ever had to describe how you wanted a Monarch to be then she was it a thousand times over. The world has lost a truly wonderful lady and we have lost a Monarch the likes of which we are unlikely to ever see again. R.I.P.

Triathlon 51 - 52x52 Challenge

That was one of the hardest yet both physically and mentally. Physically because my back is still in muscle spasm, caused by a Crohn's flare up that needed rest but didn’t get it. Mentally because the whole triathlon was done gym based, which meant no sea, no air, no trees, no birds - just a clock telling me I’ve hardly started!
